4As Tackles Data Privacy at GMM

Representatives of 4As member-agencies gathered at the Focus 7 Room of Green Sun in Makati for the association's 2nd General Membership Meeting and to listen to a talk on company compliance with the Philippines’ Data Privacy Act.

As the day's host, Programs Director John Lucas opened the event and called on Director Golda Roldan to lead the invocation. He then introduced PANA Executive Director Bobby Simborio, who shared with the body news on PANA's 60th anniversary and its PANATA Awards.

4As Chairman Bong Pacia then delivered his welcome remarks and called on President Sue Ann Nolido, who reported on the association's activities, starting this May with an upcoming ARAL seminar on Data Storytelling and an ongoing partnership with the DTI to help train MSMEs on packaging design. She then reminded the body to strengthen 4As' presence in the ASC by sending in volunteer panelists and giving feedback through Bong or Sue on any suggestions to improve processes involving the ASC.

Next was a discussion on 2 pillar projects of the 4As. Outgoing Ad Summit Pilipinas Chairman Norman Agatep thanked the membership for its support during the summit last March, and delivered an accomplishment report summarizing the event's success. He also announced the appointment of Mio Chongson as Chairperson of Ad Summit Pilipinas 2020. Meanwhile, Agency of the Year (AOY) Chairman Boboy Consunji updated the membership on the launch of the AOY, reminding members to check out aoy.ph to know more about the award that matters, and to download entry forms.

Finally, Director John Lucas introduced our special guest, Leah Besa-Jimenez, Chief Data Privacy Officer of the PLDT Group. Leah gave a background on the Data Privacy Act of the Philippines and proceeded to detail company obligations as personal information controllers (PICs) and personal information processors (PIPs), using examples involving the ad industry.
