GMM: Agencies view a snapshot of the Philippine economy

For the second time this year, member-agencies of the 4As gathered for the association's regular General Membership Meeting. Held this time at the F1 Hotel at the Bonifacio Global City, the gathering promised to be an enlightening one with Dr. Cielito Habito discussing his thoughts on where the Philippine economy is headed in 2013 and beyond.

But first, the group tackled some important matters. Chairman Matec Villanueva and President Cecile Velez presented their reports updating the body on key 4As projects including 2013 plans for programs, membership, education, and information. Agency of the Year Chair Merlee Jayme and JR Ramos opened the call for entries to the prestigious awards and explained what makes the AOY special this year. Creative Guild President Joey Ong showcased the impressive line up of speakers for this year’s Kidlat Festival happening from April 9-11 at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. And finally Woo Consultants, represented by Lawrence Tan and Don Sevilla, were officially welcomed into the 4As as our newest member.

Dr. Habito's talk titled THE PHILIPPINE ECONOMY: BREAKING OUT AND TAKING OFF? was eye-opening. Habito presented data reflecting the performance over the years of the country's economy vis-a-vis that of our neighbors. He then discussed how the essential yardsticks of price stability, jobs, and incomes seem to suggest good times ahead. He cautioned, however, that sustaining the growth beyond 2013 will happen only if all Filipinos do their share to effect positive change. Copies of Dr. Habito's presentation were distributed to attendees of the event.
